Duke of Edinburgh

You may have heard of the DofE (Duke of Edinburgh) Award, but don't know what it is or

whether it's for you. Well, it's for everyone who likes a challenge. Their mission is simple

- 'to inspire, guide and support young people in their self-development, and recognise

their achievements'.

To put it another way, they help you succeed. With the same sense of adventure that

drewyou to the Air Cadets in the first place, the DofE takes you through a programme of

activities that will leave you a more confident, motivated and capable person.

We're proud to be the DofE Award's largest participant.

There are three different groups you go on your Duke of Edinburgh camp with. Bronze (first years), Silver

(second years) and Gold (third and final years). In Duke of Edinburgh, you need to walk a certain amount

of kilometres per day, and camp for the night(s). The length of time varies depending on what group you

are. For example;

Bronze

2 days and 1 night, at least 6 hours during the daytime, (at least 3 of which must be spent journeying)

Silver

3 days and 2 nights, at least 7 hours during the daytime (at least 3.5 of which must be spent

journeying)

Gold

4 days and 3 nights, at least 8 hours during the daytime (at least 4 of which must be spent

journeying)
